چکیده

The use of mutagenis to produce strains with desired characteristics including increased biosynthetic capacity is an established part of industrial research (Stauffer and Backus, 1954; Dulaney, 1955; Backus and Stauffer, 1955). Publications indicate that much of this work has been done with ionizing and nonionizing radiation. The mutagenic effect of mustard gas for Drosophila spp. (Auerbach et al., 1947) and the usefulness of microorganisms for scoring mutations has led to increased study of chemicals as mutagens (Lederberg, 1948; Auerbach, 1951; Boyland, 1954; Iyer and Szybalski, 1958; Mashima and Ikeda, 1958). Among the most mutagenic chemical compounds are f-chloroethylamines and sulfides, that is, nitrogen and sulfur mustards. In our search for superior chemical mutagens for use in making improved strains of industrially important microorganisms, a series of nitrogen mustards was tested. These studies are reported herein.

Antiproliferative effects of flavonoid fractions from Calendula officinalis flowers in parent and tamoxifen resistant T47D human breast cancer cells

The risk of human breast cancer is concerned to cumulative exposure of the breast cells to endogenous estrogens. Strategies aiming at reducing the production of estrogens may be useful for the prevention of estrogens-related breast cancer. Several natural products with plant origin have the potential value as chemo-preventive or therapeutic agents in cancer. Flavonoids, the natural polyphenol c...

Mutagenicity of N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine, a bladder carcinogen, and related compounds.

N-Butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine (BBN), which specifically induces bladder tumors, was shown to be mutagenic to Salmonella typhimurium strains TA 1535 and TA100 in the presence of an S-9 mix prepared from the liver of rats treated with polychlorinated biphenyl. Reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide was a more effective cofactor than reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate i...

Association between Environmental Dioxin-Related Toxicants Exposure and Adverse Pregnancy Outcome: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Dioxin-related compounds are associated with teratogenic and mutagenic risks in laboratory animals, and result in adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, there were inconsistent results in epidemiology studies. In view of this difference, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine this association and to assess the heterogeneity among studies. Comprehensive literature searches w...

Mutagenic activities of ten imidazole derivatives in <Emphasis Type="Italic">Salmonella typhimurium</Emphasis>

Ten imidazole derivatives were tested for mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98 and TA100 both in the absence and presence of metabolic activation by the microsomal fraction S9 mix. In a general manner, derivatives tested exhibited a greater mutagenic activity in the TA100 strain comparing to the responses in TA 98. In the standard plate incorporation assay, 8 of these substances ...
